The case for conflict competency

Conflict competency

  • Empowers people to resolve issues and differences independently
  • Promotes shared responsibility for conflict resolution & management
  • Strengthens communication, collaboration and trust
  • Builds interpersonal skills enhancing teamwork and support
  • Develops lifelong skills for personal and professional growth
  • Reduces workplace tension & stress improving workplace wellbeing & psychological safety
  • Creates a more inclusive and supportive culture

Developing people’s capacity to navigate conflict is essential for creating healthy, productive environments.

When individuals have the right skills, conflict becomes a catalyst for open communication, constructive feedback, and stronger professional relationships.

Organisations that invest in conflict competency training empower their teams to view disagreements as opportunities for learning, growth, and collaboration—driving greater engagement and building resilient, high-performing teams.

The PARC Flagship Workshop

The PARC flagship workshop offers participants a fresh approach to experiencing and managing conflict. Drawing on research and principles of positive psychology, conflict resolution, neuroscience and psychoeducation, participants are introduced to knowledge, strategies and tools to support a shift in mindset and behaviour when working through conflict situations.

Based on the PARC pillars of Pause, Acknowledge, Reflect and Connect the PARC flagship workshop introduces a structured and practical framework for immediate use.

Workshop participants will gain insight into the influences shaping their attitudes and approaches to conflict, including their own conflict beliefs, habits and behaviours. They will develop skills to analyse conflict, recognise triggers and apply a step-by-step framework, building confidence and supporting clear, intentional actions in conflict situations.

By the end of this dynamic and interactive one-day or two half day workshop/s, participants will have knowledge, understanding and tools to approach conflict in a new and transformative way.

A framework built on four foundation practices and supported by practical tools and skills

PAUSE

Practicing pause means creating space and holding still - to regulate and ground ourselves. Pause offers us a moment to observe, gain clarity, choose action and respond with intention.

ACKNOWLEDGE

The act of acknowledging involves recognising our thoughts and feelings to understand how they shape our behaviour; to see what drives us in conflict and to name and acknowledge how we would like to show up. Building self-awareness and acknowledging where we are, empowers us to consider and choose action with intention, building confidence and clarity for working through conflict situations.

REFLECT

The act of reflecting involves examining conflict from multiple perspectives - what is happening within ourselves, what might be the experience of others and what is the broader context. By encouraging deeper understanding, reflecting empowers us to approach conflict with empathy supporting helpful communication, collaboration and a future focus for working through conflict.

CONNECT

Aiming to connect involves choosing to reach beyond differences to build understanding and cultivate meaningful dialogue. By intentionally prioritising empathy and collaboration, aiming to connect helps to shift conflict dynamics, paving the way for open communication and future focussed problem solving, through mutual recognition of needs and interests.
